Separation from overhead and underground electrical wiring shall be in accordance with State of Wisconsin Electrical Code and/or local code. Required electrical wiring associated with the swimming pool and associated equipment shall be installed in accordance with All Applicable Articles of the 2017 National Electrical Code, DSPS 316 along with any and all component manufacturers installation instructions (see information below).
All code references are from the 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC), as adopted and amended by the State of Wisconsin (SPS 316) and adopted by the City of Oak Creek.
Please note: The Electrical Code Articles associated with the wiring of a swimming pool can be overwhelming and difficult to locate and interpret for many. It is not the intent or purpose of the following information to be mistaken as a complete guide on what is required to wire a swimming pool but rather to assist the installer in finding the location of the most common electrical codes associated with the project.
Electrical equipment and materials must be approved by a recognized testing laboratory, used as specified by the manufacturer’s instructions, and installed following manufacturer's instructions as well as the State and National Electrical Code.
The NEC also regulates the use of underwater lighting, underwater audio equipment, pool heaters, electrically operated pool covers, ground fault interrupters and transformer used with pool lighting (see Article 680).
