Normally when a property is sold a plat of survey is included with the documents for the sale of the property. If you did not receive one at the sale of property you may have other options listed below available for you to obtain a copy of one. 

The City of Oak Creek may have a copy of your survey on file. You can contact us to inquire if we have one on file for your property. If we do not have one on file you may check with Milwaukee County's Land Information Office's using their online GIS Web Portal. If neither the City or County have an updated copy on file you will have to work with a private contractor to obtain a new plat of survey.

The City will only have a copy of the Plat of Survey for your property if it was provided to the City in the past for another permit. Even though we may have a copy of a prior plat of survey, that does not mean that it is the most up to date. In some cases the property has changed so much that the plat on file with the City no longer accurately represents the current conditions of the property.

Milwaukee County may have a plat of survey for your property.

You can check electronically on Milwaukee County's Land Information Office's GIS Web Portal. 

The City of Oak Creek has ordinances that specify the regulations and limits for what, how much, and where on your property you can build. The City will use your plat of survey to verify that your project is within these regulations and limits or if you need to obtain a special variance to proceed with your project. 

The City has no control over how long it takes to create a plat of survey. The City of Oak Creek does not provide any surveying services. 

How long it takes for a new survey is dependent on a number of factors including the contractor that you are working with. This is because a survey crew will visit your property to obtain the needed measurements and data. This information is then used to create the final plat of survey. 

Please work with your land surveyor of choice to get a better idea of how long it will take to create a new plat of survey.
