Overview

Fences are a permitted accessory use in any residential district and may be erected upon issuance of a Fence Permit. For fences in non-residential districts, please contact the Community Development Department.

Where can the fence be located?

If the fence is located in an easement, you may be contacted by the Engineering Department for further approval.
It is the landowner’s responsibility to obtain authorization to install or replace a fence in an easement that is not owned or controlled by the City.
Please contact Engineering with any questions.

Fences are permitted in the side and rear yards of residential districts.
No fence shall be located closer than two (2) feet to any alley right-of-way line.
Fences shall comply with the traffic visibility requirements of Sec 17.0507(5) if located on a corner lot.

How tall can the fence be?

If the fence is located on the property line
- Fences shall not exceed a height of four (4) feet
If the fence is located at least ten (10) feet from the property line.
- Fences shall not exceed a height of six (6) feet.
- Additional landscape requirements will need to be met Sec 17.0507(5)
