Stecker comes to the position with more than 22 years of law enforcement experience with the Oak Creek Police Department. He grew up in Oak Creek and graduated from Oak Creek High School. Stecker began his career with the Oak Creek Police Department as a Police Aide in May of 1999, then became a sworn Officer in April of 2001. He progressed through the ranks to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and currently as the Administrative Captain since January of 2017. During this time, Stecker has also achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Marian University. He also attended the FBI National Academy’s 267th Session, where he achieved a Master’s Certificate in Criminal Justice Leadership.
This appointment will become effective January 3, 2022, upon the retirement of current Police Chief Steven Anderson after his 31 years of service to the city of Oak Creek.
“Our candidates were well qualified, and their incredible leadership qualities and experience are testament to a strong succession plan in the Oak Creek Police Department,” states Commission President Scott Koenig. “We are highly confident that David Stecker, as Police Chief, will be a creative and trusted leader, mentor of future leaders, and will enhance the already superior reputation of the Oak Creek Police Department. The quality of our protective services is a significant reason why Oak Creek is such a desired place to live and work.”
Stecker is grateful for the chance to lead the department.
“I’m honored and humbled to have the opportunity to continue to serve the City of Oak Creek in this new leadership position,” said Stecker. “We have a great community that is continually growing, and we have an excellent staff that is prepared to meet that challenge. My goal is to continue to have staff prepared to meet the continued challenges we are facing into the future. I’m excited for these challenges and to continue serving the City of Oak Creek.”
We extend congratulations to the new Oak Creek Police Chief, David R. Stecker, Jr.
