We are currently accepting applications for the 2025 Citizens Academy. To register for the 9 week class, which begins on January 15th, please complete the following registration information. You will receive notification that your registration was received but will not be confirmed for the class until a background check has been completed.  

 

The Citizens Police Academy is designed to teach citizens about the policies and procedures that govern the Oak Creek Police Department’s mission to protect life and property,  preserve the peace, and enforce the law while making Oak Creek a safe place to live, work, and enjoy recreation.  Participants will receive instruction from many different Oak Creek Police Department personnel including those who specialize in criminal investigation, dispatch, evidence collection, narcotics, K9 and SWAT. 

Participants will take part in the 9-week program which begins on January 15, 2025, and runs each Wednesday night from 6-9 pm until the graduation on March 12, 2025.  Each weekly session will have a different curriculum with presentations and demonstrations addressing:

  • Week 1 – Welcome, Dispatch, OCPD building tour, Oak Creek City and Department history
  • Week 2 – Squads, Police Equipment, and Crime Trends
  • Week 3 – Vehicle Contacts and OWIs
  • Week 4 – Detective Bureau, Investigations, Crime Scene Processing, and Human Trafficking
  • Week 5 – DAAT (defense and arrest tactics) and Taser
  • Week 6 – SRO (School Resource Officers) and K9 unit
  • Week 7 – ERU (Emergency Response Unit) and CNU (Crisis Negotiation Unit)
  • Week 8 – Firearms
  • Week 9 – Practical scenarios and Graduation
