The Oak Creek Police Auxiliary unit was founded September 2, 1968, and assists the regular Oak Creek PD force in various ways. Members regularly assist with municipal court (Tuesday evenings) and volunteer to staff community events throughout the year. These events include the July Fourth parade and fireworks, National Night Out, Lions Fest, Oak Creek High School sporting events, and much more.

Auxiliary members have also been called upon during times of emergencies, such as natural disasters and other large-scale events, to assist sworn officers. During these events members are typically tasked with assignments such as traffic control, community relations, or visible foot/vehicle patrols.

The Police Auxiliary Unit is comprised of all volunteer citizen members that are selected from the community. Auxiliary members are non-sworn (no arrest powers) and are never tasked with law enforcement functions such as responding to in-progress crimes, conducting criminal investigations, affecting arrests, or issuing citations.

The Oak Creek Auxiliary Unit meets every other month, where members are provided training on a variety of police related topics. Members are provided with equipment and uniforms. The uniforms provided are similar to a sworn officers uniform, however, they are a different color with a different shoulder patch to differentiate themselves. Auxiliary members are provided equipment to protect themselves as well as a police radio.

Auxiliary members are required to possess a valid un-restricted Wisconsin drivers license and pass a background check. Members are subject to standard operating procedures of the Department, serve at the Department's discretion, and are expected to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours a year and attend at least 50% of the meetings.
