About the Test
- The Mantoux tuberculin skin test is one method of determining if you are infected with tuberculosis.
- A small amount of fluid, called tuberculin, is injected under the skin of your forearm. You must return 48-72 hours later to have the Public Health Nurse look at the injection site to check for a reaction. This nurse is able to tell if you have been exposed to tuberculosis.
- If you do not return at the scheduled time you will need to reschedule and pay for another skin test.
- If the TB skin test is positive you will be referred to your doctor with instructions for additional evaluation.
- Two-step TB skin Tests: If the first TB skin test is negative then a second TB skin test would be administered 7-21 days after the first test. The standard fee applies to each test.
