To avoid standing in line, we recommend that you register early to vote.

To register to vote, you must be a qualified elector. A qualified elector must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen, a resident of the City for at least 28 days prior to registering to vote, and not be disqualified from voting for any of the reasons described in Wisconsin State Statutes Section 6.03. The following persons shall not be allowed to vote in any election and any attempt to vote shall be rejected:

  1. Any person convicted of treason, felony, or bribery that has not been pardoned or completed the terms of his or her sentence, including probation, parole or extended supervision.
  2. Any person who has been determined by a court to be incapable of understanding the objective of the elective process or who is under guardianship.
  3. Anyone who has made or become interested, directly or indirectly, in any bet or wager depending upon the result of the election.

You must present a form of ID showing proof of residence that includes:

  • A current and complete name, including both the given and family name, and
  • A current and complete residential address, including a numbered street address and a municipality name

Acceptable Forms of Proof of Residence

  • A current and valid Wisconsin driver’s license
  • A current and valid Wisconsin identification card issued by the Department of Transportation
  • Any other official ID card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit
  • Any identification card issued by an employer in the normal course of business and bearing a photo of the cardholder, but not including a business card
  • A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election
  • A residential lease which is effective for a period that includes election day (this is not permissible for first-time voters registering by mail; if no proof of residence is included with the mailed registration, the elector will be required to supply proof of residence before being permitted to vote).
  • A university, college or technical institute fee card (must include photo)
  • A university, college or technical institute identification card (must include photo)
  • A gas, electric or telephone service statement (utility bill) for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before election day
  • Bank Statement
  • Pay Check
  • A check or other document issued by a unit of government

Other Residency Considerations

Although the following electors may not currently reside in a given municipality, they may still be qualified to vote in the City of Oak Creek. These persons must meet all other voter qualification requirements.

  • Military personnel away from their Wisconsin residence
  • An overseas voter who last resided in Oak Creek before going overseas and/or his or her children who are 18 or older
  • A former Wisconsin resident who is ineligible to qualify as an elector in the state to which the elector has moved may only vote for President.
  • A new Wisconsin resident who has moved to the state within 10 days of the election may only vote for President.

Note: A former resident who has moved to a different municipality in Wisconsin within 10 days of the election must vote at their previous polling place.
